How to move a domain from one SmarterMail server to another SmarterMail server

To move a domain from one SmarterMail server to another do the following:
 
  1. Stop SmarterMail on both servers
  2. Locate the domain’s folder (by default, C:\SmarterMail\Domains\<domain-name>)
  3. Move this folder from the old server to the new server
  4. Edit the domainList.xml file with Notepad on the old server (by default, C:\Program Files\SmarterTools\SmarterMail\Service)
  5. Locate this line:
    <Domain name="MyDomain.com" directory="c:\SmarterMail\Domains\MyDomain.com" />
  6. Cut this line from the file and save the file.
  7. Make a backup of the domainList.xml on the new server.
  8. Edit the domainList.xml on the new server
  9. Paste the line you cut before into this document
  10. Save the file.
  11. Start the SmarterMail service on both servers.
  12. Go to: Actions | Edit Domain, and modify the Domain's IP to the new IP.
  13. You will also need to modify the Primary MX Record to this new IP. This can take up to 24-48 hours for replication.
